CONTEST AT THE ART MUSEUM IN LIMA

Building Identity through Art

In 2005, when the school was over, we continued working and invited two of our teachers to come to Lima to receive specialized training. Nevertheless, the best was to happen. Annually the Art Museum of Lima organizes the Interschool Art Contest, this year the subject was “Building Identity through Art”. We invited two students of the NYI Art School, Junior Ruiz Macuyama and Merlín Yume Canaquiri, to come to Lima and participate in this event.
Due to our enormous faith in this project, we obtained support from Lan Peru, which donated two air tickets, and that is how these young students for the first time could see the Ucayali river from an airplane and arrived to the big city, leaving its hidden Puerto Miguel behind.
From November 16th to 19th, at the Art Museum of Lima for the first time two young students from the Jungle participated under the same conditions, with children from Lima; part of our expectations were fulfilled but, we received much more, because Junior Ruiz Macuyama won the First prize in Plastic Arts in his category, and both children lef an excellent image among the authorities of the Art Museum and the jury.
This achievement which fills us with joy, does not mean that we have already reached our goals but that we are just beginning and at this momento we are more convinced of our greater responsibility, humbleness and effort in order to form, not winners of contests, but to support children and Young people in their growth to “win” themselves.
Our work has not been lonely due to generous people who have trusted in the transparency of our Project and have supported us, reason why we want to share this first goal of our students. We thank: One Heart Many Rhythms, Eliane and Claude Vaux, David Ross and his group, Malena Morales Valentín, Lan Perú and the Art Museum of Lima for their trust and support.
We believe in the power of healing through Art
Let us believe that past pain can be healed
Let us believe that the Faith that supports us through Art, will make possible that other NYI schools flourish in the Tawantinsuyu territory.
